Operate the Real Arm · xArm 6 · Step 7 of 9

Shut Down and Secure the Arm

Shutting down is part of the job, not the end of it: the arm is left safe, clean and switched off, and the next person knows what happened during your run.

  1. Complete or stop the operation. Let the approved program finish, or click Studio's STOP: the arm stops at once and its queued commands are cleared12.
  2. Remove the part. A STOP resets the outputs only when a Studio setting, 'Clear the IO output when the robot is stopped', is on, so the suction may still hold the part after a STOP3. With the arm stopped and your hands clear of its path, release the part with the gripper control lab staff showed you, then take it off the work area45.
  3. Return the arm to a safe state. Make sure the path is clear and press and hold Initial Position, or move the arm to the rest position lab staff give you61. Turn Manual Mode off if it is on7.
  4. Remove the arm's power. Press the emergency stop button and check that the power light is off8.
  5. Switch off the control box. It takes about 5 seconds to power off. Do not switch it on again within those 5 seconds9.
  6. Clean, once the arm and control box have cooled: clean the arm's carbon fiber shell with 95% alcohol or 70% isopropanol, keep the liquid out of the joints, and clean the work area10111.
  7. Record any problem or maintenance need, in your operating report and to lab staff1. Studio's Log page, under Settings > My Device, shows the control box's, the joints' and the tool's error logs, and can download them12.
  • Leave the arm's settings as you found them: do not change a protected setting13.

Key to the badges
Confidence: Verified
A manufacturer or IntelliMake document says so, or it was observed directly. It does not mean anyone measured it at S6.
Confidence: Inferred
Reasoned from Verified facts. The reasoning is printed with the record.
Confidence: Assumed
Plausible but untested. The record says how it would be checked.
Kind: Gap
Not known. No figure or answer is given in its place.
Kind: Contradiction
Sources disagree. Both sides are shown, and the site does not pick one silently.
Kind: Recommendation
Project advice drawn from the records it cites. Not a fact about the machine and not a confidence class, so the filter never hides it.
Awaiting cell access
Awaiting cell access: could be confirmed or corrected once the physical S6 cell can be observed.
This project's simulation and agent design, not the physical cell
This project's simulation and agent design, not the physical cell.

Mode 2 is manual mode: the arm enters zero-gravity mode so the user can drag its links to teach, and should be switched back to mode 0 afterwards. Mode 2 must be set via mode 0: from a non-zero mode, a request for mode 2 first switches to mode 0, and mode 2 takes effect only on a second command.
