Operate the Real Arm · xArm 850

Operate the xArm 850 with UFACTORY Studio

This part is for the operator of the real arm. You run it from UFACTORY Studio, with the controls and programs it already has. You do not write or change a program here: that comes next, when you learn to program the arm. Practice each step in this site's simulator first, then do it on the arm with lab staff beside you. These seven pages are this arm's standard operating procedure.

Warning

Do not operate the arm until you have the training and authorization the lab requires, and lab staff have approved you to begin12. UFACTORY requires operators to be trained in UFACTORY Studio3.

What You Will Do

  • Operate the arm with its existing controls and programs: you may select and run an existing approved program, but not create or change one4.
  • The approved production task is IntelliMake's: the laser engraver run, with the 3D printer planned5.
  • In that task the 850 moves each card from the staging table, S3, on to the engraver's conveyor, S467. After engraving, the xArm 6 at S6 handles the finished part8.
  • UFACTORY Studio is the main way the cell's arms are operated by hand9.

The Standard Operating Procedure

  1. Prepare: read UFACTORY's instructions, put on your protective equipment, inspect the arm and its area, find the emergency stop, and get approval101211. See Prepare.
  2. Connect your computer to the arm, power the arm up and open UFACTORY Studio12131415. See Connect.
  3. Set up: check the arm's settings with lab staff, enable it, go to a known starting position, load the card, select the approved program1617184. See Set up.
  4. Run the arm: jog it, use the gripper, run and stop an approved program1920. See Run.
  5. Monitor its status while it works21. See Monitor.
  6. Respond to an abnormal condition22. See Abnormal conditions.
  7. Shut down and secure the arm2324. See Shut down.

The checklist puts the checks on one printable page, and the operating report gives the headings for recording a run and its problems1025.

Key to the badges
Confidence: Verified
A manufacturer or IntelliMake document says so, the project owner stated it as the design, or it was observed directly. It does not mean anyone measured it at S2.
Confidence: Inferred
Reasoned from Verified facts. The reasoning is printed with the record.
Confidence: Assumed
Plausible but untested. The record says how it would be checked.
Kind: Gap
Not known. No figure or answer is given in its place.
Kind: Contradiction
Sources disagree. Both sides are shown, and the site does not pick one silently.
Kind: Recommendation
Project advice drawn from the records it cites. Not a fact about the machine and not a confidence class, so the filter never hides it.
Awaiting cell access
Awaiting cell access: could be confirmed or corrected once the physical S2 cell can be observed.
This project's simulation and agent design, not the physical cell
This project's simulation and agent design, not the physical cell.

  26. Confidence: VerifiedAwaiting cell accessops-209

    The record says

On 2026-10-22 (Studio 2.6.0, before the update) UFACTORY Studio's Live Control for the xArm 850 had the Vacuum Gripper selected as its end effector, with OPEN and CLOSE buttons; its speed slider was at 12 % and Manual Mode was off.

Awaiting cell access: this could be confirmed or corrected once the physical S2 cell can be observed.

Reasoning: Verified as a direct reading of UFACTORY Studio connected to the real xArm 850 ('Real' selected) on 2026-10-22, before the firmware update that day (int-608). It is what the screen showed that day and no further: a slider position and a selected preset can be changed at any time. No inspection of the tool is recorded.

  27. Confidence: Verifiedops-201

    The record says

In UFACTORY Studio's Live Control, the Recording panel plays and pauses a recorded trajectory and sets its playback speed and how many times it plays. Creating a new recording turns Manual Mode on so the arm can be dragged by hand, and UFACTORY says to watch the arm's load state while recording, so that a big difference between the actual and the set load does not make the arm move by itself.

  28. Confidence: Verifiedops-202

    The record says

In UFACTORY Studio's Live Control, Linear Motion moves the tool in a straight line in the base or the TCP coordinate system, with X, Y and Z in mm and roll, pitch and yaw in degrees; Joint Motion turns one joint at a time, and the tool's path is then not a straight line. UFACTORY says to check the TCP offset before recording a Cartesian position.

    Evidence · 4 citations

Users can control the motion of the robotic arm based on the base coordinate system and TCP coordinate system. The trajectory of tool center point in the Cartesian space is a straight line.

X, Y, and Z control the position of TCP in base or tool coordinate system, in the unit of mm. While Roll/Pitch/Yaw controls the TCP orientation in the unit of degree.
