Connect Your Computer to the Arm

UFACTORY Studio reaches the arm's control box over a network cable. So first you put your computer on the same network as the arm, then you power the arm up, and then you open Studio and connect it to the arm.

Warning

Follow UFACTORY's current Studio manual, linked in this page's references1.

What You Need

  • A computer with the UFACTORY Studio desktop app downloaded and installed: the lab uses the desktop app2. Download it from UFACTORY's Studio page, linked in this page's references, which offers it for Windows, macOS and Linux3.
  • An Ethernet cable from your computer to the control box. UFACTORY recommends connecting the control box directly to the computer4, and advises against a wireless link to a router, because of delay and packet loss5.
  • Your arm's address, from your lab staff or from the label on the control box: whoever changes the address writes the new one on the box6. The arm's default address is in the 192.168.1.xxx range7.
  • An address for your computer on the same network as your arm, for example 192.168.1.x, and the subnet mask, both from your lab staff. Your computer and the control box must be on the same network segment87.

Set Your Computer's Address on Windows

  1. These steps are for Windows 11. Plug the Ethernet cable into your computer and the control box94.
  2. Open Settings, then Network & internet, then Ethernet, and select the Ethernet network you are connected to9.
  3. Next to IP assignment, select Edit9.
  4. Choose Manual, then turn on IPv49.
  5. Type your computer's IP address and subnet mask, fill in the gateway only if your lab staff give you one, and select Save98.

Set Your Computer's Address on a Mac

  1. Plug the Ethernet cable into your Mac and the control box4.
  2. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Network in the sidebar10.
  3. Click the Ethernet connection, then click Details10.
  4. Click TCP/IP. From the Configure IPv4 menu, choose Manually10.
  5. Enter your computer's IP address and subnet mask in the labeled fields108.

Windows and macOS change these screens between versions. If yours look different, follow Microsoft's or Apple's current help, linked in this page's references910.

Power Up

  1. Check the cables once more, and that the arm cannot hit any person or equipment within its working range1112.
  2. Turn on the control box's OFF/ON switch and check that its indicator lights are lit13.
  3. Press the power button. The control box is on when its CONTROLLER light comes on14.
  4. Turn the emergency stop button in the direction of its arrow so that it pops up. The ROBOT PWR light comes on: the arm has power but cannot move yet1516.

Open UFACTORY Studio

  1. Open the UFACTORY Studio desktop app. In its IP search field, enter your arm's address, from the label on the control box or from your lab staff2176.
  2. Click Connect Server17.
  3. Check that Studio shows your arm: Product Information names its model18.
  4. Do not change the arm's settings, its address among them: changing protected settings is not allowed19.

Real and Sim

  • Studio has a Real and Sim switch. In Sim the arm does not move, but Studio still needs the real arm connected, and settings you make in Sim apply to the real arm20.
  • In Sim, unlocking a joint still unlocks the real arm's joint21.
  • Practice in this site's simulator. Studio's Sim is not separate from the real arm: settings you change and joints you unlock there apply to the real arm2021. Lab staff confirm the arm's configuration and approve you before Studio drives the real arm2223.

Key to the badges
Confidence: Verified
A manufacturer or IntelliMake document says so, the project owner stated it as the design, or it was observed directly. It does not mean anyone measured it at S2.
Confidence: Inferred
Reasoned from Verified facts. The reasoning is printed with the record.
Confidence: Assumed
Plausible but untested. The record says how it would be checked.
Kind: Gap
Not known. No figure or answer is given in its place.
Kind: Contradiction
Sources disagree. Both sides are shown, and the site does not pick one silently.
Kind: Recommendation
Project advice drawn from the records it cites. Not a fact about the machine and not a confidence class, so the filter never hides it.
Awaiting cell access
Awaiting cell access: could be confirmed or corrected once the physical S2 cell can be observed.
This project's simulation and agent design, not the physical cell
This project's simulation and agent design, not the physical cell.

Asked whether the lab opens UFACTORY Studio in a web browser or with the desktop app, the answer given on 2026-10-23 was the desktop app, and that learners should download it.

Awaiting cell access: this could be confirmed or corrected once the physical S2 cell can be observed.

Reasoning: Verified as a dated report of how Studio is opened in the lab, as of 2026-10-23 and no further. The question was about the lab, where the xArm 850 is operated from Studio (int-089); the answer names no arm. It names no Studio version and no computer, and no inspection is recorded. It says that the lab uses the desktop app and that learners should download it; it says nothing about whether the browser route UFACTORY's Studio manual describes works.

    Project advice

Before motion is enabled on the xArm 850, lab staff confirm that the arm's speed, payload, workspace and safety configuration are the approved ones, and the operator does not change a protected setting. As read on 2026-10-22 the 850's safety boundary was in effect off, reduced mode was off and no input was set to a safety function, so the operator stays out of the working area while the arm moves.

This is advice from this project, based on: int-603 Verified safety-201 Verified, awaiting cell access safety-203 Verified, awaiting cell access safety-009 Verified safety-144 Recommendation

Why: IntelliMake's rules require the approved speed, payload, workspace and safety configuration to be verified before motion is enabled, and forbid modifying protected settings (int-603). The 850's controller, as read on 2026-10-22, had no effective boundary (safety-201) and no input configured as a protective stop (safety-203); UFACTORY says no people should be in the working area while the arm runs (safety-009), and a safeguard nobody has confirmed is not relied on (safety-144). The confirmation is lab staff's, because the approved configuration is theirs to state.
